Bracelet

Bracelet made up of four rings, from which hang as many double-link chains. The original ribbon (atacadera) that allowed the suspension of the whole is not preserved in this case either. \Ring nº 1. Chain. L: 39 cm. \Medal cut out of gilded silver with the image of the Virgin of Prado, whose triangular mantle also stands out in the back of the piece. This characteristic, as well as the meticulous engraving on the mantle and the detail of the Holy Spirit and the angels surrounding the nimbus (musicians, turiferarios, winged heads) allow this piece to stand out among the others, very numerous, of the same invocation. The crowned Mary and Child appears, surrounded by four little angels, two musicians and two wearing crowns. The image rests on the crescent moon. Around the whole there is a great glory in which rays and little angels' heads are interspersed and it is finished off with the image of God the Father blessing and with the orb. Cross handle. H: 7.5, W: 5 cm. \This image, that appears in a plate dated in 1782, was popularized by the ceramists of Talavera who reproduced it in benditeras, jugs and plates of tiles. \Identical medal on the right armband photographed by the Hispanic Society in 1931, P (12643), P (12644). \Silver oval case with two windows, decorated with vegetal engravings and application of cordoncillo in the profile. Inside, on one side, a coloured print with the Virgin and Child; on the other, on brocade, a space compartmentalised by golden paper scrolls containing various coloured talcum powder, fragments of golden thread and relics ? Cross handle perpendicular to the frame. H: 6, W: 5 cm. \It is the same pendant that appears in the right bracelet photographed by the Hispanic Society in 1931, P (12648), P (12649). \Silver medal cut with the image of the Virgen del Prado very rough invoice. Cross handle. H: 3.5, W: 2 cm. \Silver medal with the image of the Virgen de los Dolores at the foot of the cross. Circular handle. H: 3.6, W: 2.6 cm. \Oval silver case with two windows, with cross handle perpendicular to the frame and application of cordoncillo in the profile. On one side, window with zizalino and, under glass, painted parchment with the image of the Virgin of Carmen. On the other, plain window and, also under glass, Carmelite coat of arms on parchment. H: 5, W: 3 cm. \Serpentine pendant heart-shaped, mounted on silver toothed frame with double cordondillo appliqué in the profile. Lamellar handle perpendicular to the frame. H: 4.5, W: 3 cm. \The serpentine is a very hard greenish piece. In the Museum's collection there are two which, according to Alarcón Román, are lightning stones (inv. 1718 and 1720), and another one which also has a heart-shaped form (inv. 1920). \Silver case in the shape of an opening heart, articulated by means of a hinge and with a notch clasp. In the profile it carries application of cordoncillo and flowers in the axes. In the exterior faces, zig-zag borders and anagrams. It has lost its contents. Circular handle perpendicular to the frame. H: 5.5, W: 4.5 cm. \Fragment of jet fig. Only the end is preserved, moulded, with columns and a vegetal motif in a grid. It is mounted in a silver cap of quadrangular section with application of palmettes and cordoncillo; in the superior part, wavy sheet and engraved with rays, and molded handle for suspension. H: 8, W: 2.5 cm. \It is the fig cape that appears in the bracelet of the right photographed by the Hispanic Society in 1931, P (12646), P (12647) \nAnilla No. 2. Chain L. 28 cm. \Oval silver case, two windows with beveled glass, serrated frame and application of cordoncillo in profile. Inside, paintings under glass with the image of the Holy Face and the Immaculate Conception. Cross handle perpendicular to the frame. W: 4, W: 2.5 cm. \Silver openwork medal with the image of the Virgin of Prado, with the mantle highlighted on the back. H: 5.3, W: 2.5 cm. \Spherical pommel, of central opening and closing conformed by four rings that join eight handles arranged in pairs. It is decorated with applications of circles of cordoncillo. Marking the upper and lower axes, thread flowers with nipple. Circular handle. D: 4 cm. \Silver openwork medal with the image of Santiago Matamoros in a laurel wreath with scallops on three of the axes. On the back, crucifix of round bulk. Handle of cross and cross and ce. H: 5.5, W: 3.7 cm. \It is the same pendant that appears in the right bracelet photographed by the Hispanic Society in 1931, P (12650), P (12651). \Oval gilded silver medal with images of the Virgin of Guadalupe and St. Jerome. It is mounted on a silver frame in the shape of a laurel wreath in the upper part and a ribbon in the lower part. It carries legends. Circular handle. H: 3.5, W: 2 cm. \Articulated silver fish, opened by the head, articulated by means of a hinge. The scales of the body, fins and tail are drawn by a fine zigzag. The eye is made of red glass. L: 11, W: 2.5 cm. \It is the same fish that appears in the left bracelet photographed by the Hispanic Society in 1931, P (12658), P (12659). \Ring No. 3. Chain of double links that joins to the own of the rattle, L: 9 cm. \Silver medal cut with the image of the Virgin of the Palona and legend in elreverso. H: 4.5, W: 3.5 cm. \Pendant with the image of San Antonio de Padua of round bulk. He is dressed with the Franciscan habit and carries the bouquet of lilies in the right hand and the Child in the left. Circular handle on the back. H: 4 cm. \This type of pendants are characteristic of the seventeenth and eighteenth century. They were made in gold, silver and even in boxwood; in the first two cases they could be enriched with enamels. The piece in question can be dated to the beginning of the 18th century. \Similar pieces in the Hispanic Society of America, published by Muller (1972: 75, nº 109), and in the Fundación Lázaro Galdeano (Arbeteta, 2003: 40, nº 3). \Oval medal of gilded silver, with the cut out image of Santiago Matamoros. The border is of filigree, showing a crowned two-headed eagle, with the wings spread out and the tail in a fan of five lanes. The heads and legs are laminar. H: 8, W: 4.5 cm. \Similar pieces in the Museum. \Chain formed by four polylobed and openwork links, which are joined to another circular, openwork in the form of a Greek cross. Two chains start from this one, each one with an oval openwork link and with another one equal to the first ones. It is possible that there was also a central bell, now lost, between the two branches. The sound supports a reclining mermaid with a cylindrical whistle on her head; above this, two lions pass through an oval with a cross. Between the siren and the whistle, shell and bell. Four bells hang from the lower part of the siren, two of them missing. L chain: 23 cm. Mermaid: H: 8 cm, W: 9.5 cm. \Ring nº 4. Chain L: 30 cm. \Oval silver case. It presents an only stained glass window, with toothed frame and application of cordoncillo in the profile. Handle in crown with engraved rays. Inside, a round image of Saint Anthony made of boxwood? polychrome. H: 2.2, W: 1.5 cm. \Oval and openwork silver medal with the image of Santiago Matamoros, obverse and reverse well differentiated. Laurel crown frame, with scallops in the axes. In the back fours of the horse, crosses of Santiago. Cross and cross handle in ce and cross. H: 5.4, W: 4 cm. \Oval and openwork silver medal, with the image of the Virgen de la Paz in a border of ovals; round handle. Legend on the back. H: 3.8, W: 2.8 cm. \Oval silver case with two stained glass windows, with smooth window and application of cordoncillo and eight candelieri, larger on the axes, in the fence. Inside, lithographs of St. Anthony of Padua. H: 6.6, W: 5.6 cm. \Silver medal with the image of the Virgin of Prado, with the mantle highlighted on the back. Handle in crown. H. 7.5, W: 5 cm. \Pendant of periform silver. It is formed by a base that supports a very naturalistic oak leaf attached to a bulbous lower appendage. H: 6, W: 2 cm. \It is similar to a pendant of the bracelet of the right photographed by the Hispanic Society in 1931, although this one seems more complete. \In a ring, three double-linked silver chains hold a horizontal stem on which are strung five faceted glass beads, all with caps and central cord clamp. From three of these beads hang pendants, consisting of chain, link in that, flattened silver openwork bead and bell. H: 14.5, W: 8.5 cm. \This set of jewels was acquired by Elvira Lucena to 'Tía Quina'. According to Francisca Becerro, 'La cirujana', 'Tía Quina' was María Hoyos.
