Dynamic changes in lens parameters after vitrectomy
View through CrossRef
To date, the number of vitreoretinal interventions is steadily increasing every year, and with them the understanding of the most common negative effects on some structures of the eye due to surgical invasion of the vitreal cavity. One of the most common complications of endovitreal interventions is the formation of cataracts. The aim of the study was to morphologically identify the most common pathological changes in the lens substance after vitrectomy with various types of endotamponade of the vitreal cavity. All patients were divided into 2 groups equal in number of subjects. Group 1 consisted of patients with tamponade of the vitreous cavity with sterile BSS solution, group 2 included patients with the presence of a gas-air mixture of hexafluoroethane in the vitreal cavity at the end of the operation. We recorded a significant increase in the thickness of the lens 3 months after vitrectomy in patients who used gas-air tamponade, and as well as the appearance of such morphological signs as hyperreflective focal changes in the lens nucleus, delamination of the posterior subcortical layers and the presence of crystalline "sutures".
