This chapter provides some insights into the 1846 publication of Kierkegaard's Concluding Unscientific Postscript to the Philosophical Fragments. The book was the sequel to the previously published Philosophical Fragments (1844), a “thought project” which abstractly discusses the fundamental themes of Christianity. The Postscript, meanwhile, deals both discursively and profoundly with the philosophic problems involved in Christianity. Rather than embarking on an analysis of the Postscript, however, the chapter instead considers its publication history, the nature of the pseudonym Kierkegaard had taken on for both this work and its prequel, how it relates to the rest of Kierkegaard's oeuvre, as well as the treatment of the Postscript by other intellectuals.
