The article is dedicated to the intersection of destinies of Nikolai Medtner and Svyatoslav Richter. The narrative concerns the complicated circumstances of the Medtner couple’s survival in 1919–1921, before their forced emigration from Russia. Anna Troyanovskaya, vocalist and artist, acted as a good angel for both the Medtners and Svyatoslav Richter, who was starting his career. The Medtners lived in her wooden “hut” in Bugry for two years. Here, the composer-pianist created the “Forgotten Melodies” cycles, including the “Sonata-Reminiscenza.” After Medtner emigrated in 1921, Troyanovskaya transported the “Bechstein” Medtner piano from Bugry to Moscow, which Richter played for 34 years.
