Performances and Murals by Svyatoslav Vladyka in the Modern Sociocultural Space of Ukraine

The paper analyzes some aspects of the works by Svyatoslav Vladyka, known primarily as a monumentalist artist and icon painter. However, his activity is not limited to sacred art as he is also an active public figure and has recently started his prolific activity in the field of secular monumental art.
The artist’s work is viewed in the light of the functions of modern Ukrainian culture. Specific features of performative practices are inherent to the author’s murals. The aim of the paper is to reveal the value-oriented potential of Svyatoslav Vladyka’s work in the formation of the national socio-cultural space and the revival of monumental art in Ukraine. In particular, the multifaceted activities of Svyatoslav Vladyka are aimed at popularizing national culture, actualizing the traditions of monumental art in Ukraine. His work contributes to the consolidation of progressive civil society, intensifies the process of understanding of national cultural heritage. The following general and specific methods were used in the work: systemic, semiotic, biographical, as well as the method of art analysis, which contributes to the formulation of sound conclusions about the development of modern art practices in Ukraine.
