Mechanism of grain refinement in undercooled Cu30Ni70

View through CrossRef
It was found that remelting is the origin of grain refinement in undercooled Cu30Ni70 specimens. It was also demonstrated that composition difference across a dendrite is the cause of remelting. The critical undercooling, ΔT* for grain refinement is 145 K for undercooledCu30Ni70.
