ODENIGBO LECTURE SERIES AND TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN IMO STATE, NIGERIA

This study examined the relationship between Odenigbo lecture series and tourism development in Imo State, Nigeria. The work was carried out to identify the extent to which the Odenigbo lecture series enhance tourism development in Igbo. The work used descriptive survey research design and questionnaire was employed to collect data. The analysis was done using Mean and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (through SPSS version 21.0). It was discovered that there is significant relationship between Odenigbo lecture series and tourism development as it relates to religious development, environmental awareness and traditional laws in Imo State. This study concludes that the achievement sustainable development in Imo State in particular and Igboland in general depends on the extent of promotion of Odenigbo lecture series. It was recommended that there is need for the encouragement of Odenigbo lecture series so as to achieve tourism development in Igboland. Furthermore, the government should encourage social cultural development through promotion of Igbo language through Odenigbo lecture series.
