Die erste deutsche Krimiserie „Der Kommissar“ (1969–1976), der später „Derrick“ (1974–1998) folgte, war ein Publikumsmagnet. Geschrieben wurde sie von Herbert Reinecker (1914–2007). Mit Blick auf die Lebensgeschichte des Autors zwischen Nationalsozialismus und Bundesrepublik füllt die Studie ein Forschungsdesiderat zur Wandlung ehemaliger NS-Kulturschaff ender im Kontext der Entstehung des Massenmediums Fernsehen. Reineckers Serien waren erfolgreich, weil er Fragen von Schuld und Verantwortung nicht nur mit einer Kritik an der zeitgenössischen Liberalisierung und dem Verständnis von Staatsgewalt, sondern auch mit Fragen nach individueller und generationeller Schuld verband.
