AbstractDurch Umsetzung von zinn(II)‐methoxid mit Diboran wurde Zinn(II)‐boranat, Sn(BH4)2, als erstes Boranat der IV. Hauptgruppe hergestellt. Bei der Umsetzung von Zinn(IV)‐methoxid mit Diboran bildet sich nicht Zinn(IV)‐boranat, sondern Zinn(II)‐boranat, Wasserstoff und Monostannan. Die Reaktion von Zinn(II)‐halogeniden mit Lithiumboranat führt zu halogenhaltigen Produkten, jedoch nicht zu reinem Zinn(II)‐boranat. Sn(BH4)2 ist eine gelbe, bei −65° im Hochvakuum nicht flüchtige, etwas ätherlösliche Substanz. Es ist bis −65° beständig.
