MALIGNANT PLEURAL MESOTHELIOMA.

El mesotelioma es un tumor raro, agresivo y de mal pronóstico. La supervivencia a los 5 años no supera el 10% en algunas series. A día de hoy, el asbesto es el principal factor de riesgo para su desarrollo. Es un tumor heterogéneo debido a las alteraciones en la metilación del ADN. La clínica es inespecífica, debutan con derrame pleural, dolor, disnea, tos y síndrome constitucional. Se realiza inicialmente una radiografía de tórax en la que se encontrará engrosamiento pleural, derrame y pérdida de volumen. En el TAC se podrá apreciar engrosamiento pleural y derrame en algunos casos. Los pacientes con derrame pleural podrán beneficiarse de la toracocentesis, que será diagnóstica en el 32% de las ocasiones. En caso de derrame pleural recidivante, dentro del manejo paliativo, podría valorarse la colocación de drenaje pleural tunelizado de cara al alivio sintomático en estos pacientes
