FIGURE. Torso (male). Gravfynd.Hollow and dressed in armour with neck collar, below the waist a belt. The icing is brown, green, yellow and white spotted and finely cracked. The estate is greyish yellow. Probably a Lokapala that, according to the Buddhist view, was the guardian of one of the four parts of heaven. At the time of purchase, the figure was restored with the head, arms, legs and postament partly of unfired clay, partly of pieces of other tang-figures, additionally painted with oil paint and coated with loose clay. Purchased by Wilhelmina von Hallwyl, 21 May 1912, at Bukowski’s Konsthandel, Stockholm. Price 450 Kr. Figure, a fragment (Torso). Tang-dynasty.
