Cufflinks, links. A couple with a case
View through Europeana Collections
MANSCHETTKNAPPAR, a couple, with a case of pearl with oriental pearls and silver and gold. Each consisting of two parts; each part of a round button-like disc of mother-of-pearl, on whose front side in the middle a scanty recess, in this a small round pearl, attached to pins, in three concentric rings; the disc enclosed by a smooth frame of platinum. On the back a flack-tight eyelet made of gold, attached to a rearward recessed small cuppy disc. Between the parts an elongated link of a deflected flat rail with the ends obliquely pointed, so that the link can be distinguished from the loop in the parts. On the loops fineness stamp (on one pair of eyes repeated) Presumably Danish work from the beginning of the 19th century. Etui (original): Of wood, rectangular, with slightly cupped cover and dressed with dark red skin; on the lid in gold print on top of the edge a stretcher of S-shaped leaf ornaments, around the outer edge a narrow stripe; lining of white velvet and white silk (atlas). On the front end pressure clasp of brass with overdressed pressure knob. H 2.8 L 6.7 B 4.9 cm. Gift for Walther von Hallwyl, Christmas Eve 1914, from his daughter and son-in-law Irma and Wilhelm von Geijer. Purchased by the latter at the Stock Company David Andersen & Comp., Stockholm.
