E Counselling Perception and Efficacy and Their Relationship to Counselling Skills among Muslim Trainees

View through CrossRef
The integration of digital technology has positioned e-counselling as a complementary approach to conventional counselling. This study examines the perception and efficacy of e-counselling and their relationship to counselling skills among Muslim trainee counsellors. A quantitative survey design was employed with 108 trainee counsellors enrolled in the Bachelor of Counselling programme at Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah during their practicum training. Validated instruments were used to measure perception, efficacy, and e-counselling skills. Data analysis revealed significant correlations between perception and counselling skills (r = 0.597, p < 0.05), efficacy and counselling skills (r = 0.203), and a negative correlation between e-counselling skills and certain practice dimensions (r = –0.511, p < 0.05). The findings suggest that favourable perceptions and efficacy beliefs are essential in developing counselling competencies in digital contexts. The study further highlights the importance of ethical guidelines and the integration of Islamic spiritual approaches to enhance the effectiveness and cultural relevance of e-counselling within Muslim societies. Implications extend to both trainee and professional counsellors, offering insights into strengthening the implementation of e-counselling as a sustainable alternative alongside traditional counselling practices.
