Ideas of Africa: Sidibé & Keïta

View through Artsy
In the decades surrounding independence, photographers across Central and West Africa transformed portraiture into a space of style and self-definition. Through intimate studio works and scenes of everyday life, they shaped a visual language of Pan-African modernity. This viewing room by HackelBury grows from long-standing collaborations with Malick Sidibé, Seydou Keïta, and their estates, and coincides with MoMA’s exhibition "Ideas of Africa: Portraiture and Political Imagination".
