Esta resenha discute a sensação de estranheza e familiaridade vivida por uma brasileira em Lisboa, conectando essa experiência pessoal à obra da cineasta anticolonial Sarah Maldoror (1929-2020). Maldoror é reconhecida como a primeira mulher a dirigir um longa-metragem em um país africano. Neste texto - um híbrido entre crítica, diário de bordo e crônica - abordamos a trajetória de Maldoror, a partir dos filmes vistos na retrospectiva de sua obra na Cinemateca Portuguesa. A resenha oferece breves análises dos seus filmes mais célebres, incluindo “Monangambée” (1969) e “Sambizanga” (1972), como também relatos acerca de seus filmes de mais difícil acesso, tais como Un Masque à Paris (1978) e Un dessert pour Constance (1981). A resenha destaca a parceria entre Maldoror, Aimé Césaire e cineastas da Rive Gauche francesa, e como estas trocas intelectuais estão patentes em sua fatura fílmica e na sua luta anticolonial. Relaciona-se também a obra de Maldoror com a literatura e o movimento surrealista, ressaltando a sua habilidade de criar jogos com as palavras, transitando entre diferentes saberes e sabores, subvertendo a língua e a cultura do colonizador por meio da própria linguagem cinematográfica.
