Analysis of the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda in Palestine: Between Stakeholder Efforts and the Needs of Target Groups
View through CrossRef
This study aims to provide a clear overview of the efforts undertaken and future aspirations for advancing the Youth, Peace, and Security agenda in Palestine. It evaluates relevant policies, maps key actors, and monitors ongoing achievements in relation to this agenda and its implementation. The work was conducted at several levels. The first level focused on identifying and mapping the institutions involved in enhancing the roles of youth within Palestinian society. The research produced tables and data illustrating the roles of governmental institutions, civil society organizations, and international institutions. At the second level, the analytical study focuses on the reality of the Youth, Peace, and Security agenda in Palestine and its localization particularly through the lens of Palestinian youth. At the third level, a validation workshop was held after sharing the results with several stakeholders involved in the Youth, Peace, and Security agenda, including governmental, international, and local institutions, as well as youth participants, in order to gather feedback and additional recommendations for refining the study.
The study concludes the urgent action is needed to implement the Youth, Peace, and Security agenda in Palestine. To achieve this, work needs to be implemented at multiple levels. Improving the conditions of Palestinian youth and enhancing their political and social participation is closely linked to the broader political and security context in the country. This includes providing a safe environment for Palestinian youth through
protection from violations by Israeli occupation authorities and local political authorities. In addition, creating suitable employment opportunities is essential to ensure the economic security of young people in Palestine. It is also necessary to actively engage Palestinian youth in political reform efforts to ensure their representation and meaningful participation. Creating platforms for dialogue for the Palestinian youth in response to the divisive policies of segregation imposed by the Israeli occupation on Palestinians, unifying the voices of the Palestinian youth are crucial. Moreover, collaborative and coordinated efforts are required to ensure the effective implementation the Youth, Peace and Security agenda.
The study discussed the interventions needed to advance the Youth, Peace, and Security agenda in Palestine, and the contributions that promotes youth inclusion and participation in peacebuilding and security efforts.
