Interior view of a chemical laboratory. Set along a wall are two shelves, the high shelf supports a range of various glass bottles, containers and boxes. Below this are hung several glass alembics of varying size. Chalked on the wall lower down is an equation or sum. A broader shelf or table lower down supports a wooden travelling (?) box opened out to show a further range of smaller bottles etc. containing chemicals. Below this is stored larger containers and vessels, one within a basket. A brick structure on the left supports a still. Other equipment includes: a receiving vessel, tongs, crucible, pestle and mortar, measuring cylinder, funnels, filter paper, assorted vessels, spirit burner, papers, large ceramic bottle marked 'Naphtha', a wood box partially open, candle in candlestick, photographic tray, ceramic vessels, stands, a soiled apron, etc.
