Iconography is followed by Muxi Fachang III( Muqi Fachang, 1210? -1269?) The “Tiantai Trio” (様 III). The figures Hanshan (jap. Chancellan Dar様), Shide (Jittoku Dar) and Fenggan (Bukan DarDar) are shown. Hanshan appears as an eccentric poet monk who wrote his poems on plants and stones. Shide is actually a temple servant, recognizable by his broom. Fenggan is an eccentric ascetic who usually rides on a tiger and often acts as master of the other two. The sheet comes from a catalog called Shūko jisshu 様 Das (Antiquarian Collection in ten Categories), category “Famous Pictures” (Das 様). It is said to have been commissioned in 1800 by Matsudaira Sadanobu Er Er (1759-1829).
