This is a print from an engraving of an original painting, 'The Craven Heifer', by Fryer. It was engraved by J. Whessell, of Oxford, and published by The Proprietors in 1812. It has the inscription: 'To the Most Noble William Spencer Duke of Devonshire, this engraving of the Craven Heifer, Bred and fed by the Rev. William Carr of Bolton Abbey near Skipton in Craven Yorkshire is respectfully dedicated by his Grace's most obedient servant John Watkinson.' It is one of a collection of paintings and prints thought to date from the last quarter of the 18th century to c.1860.
