Olorum asked Oxalá to create the world and humans.
Oxalá tried various methods, such as creating humans from air or wood, but all his attempts failed. Even creating humans from stone and fire was unsuccessful. He tried using oil, water, and palm wine, but nothing worked. That's when Nanã offered her help by giving Oxalá mud from the bottom of her lagoon, where she lived. Using the mud, Oxalá finally succeeded in creating humans. And so, humans were created from Nanã's mud and given life.
