Toyokuniga Toyo様 ToyoToyoSeries of Diptychs on the 54 chapters of the novel “Genji monogatari Toyo様 Toyo様 ToyoToyoToyoToyo” (narrative by Prince Genji) with a background in blind print and (printed) mica effect. Here is the left part of the diptych for the 16th chapter “Sekiya Hier” (cf. KI 7627-95). The entire background is covered with a pattern of blind printing. The pattern shows alternating geometric shapes, Genji chapter signs and clouds. The mica effect here is not made of glued metal particles, but was printed in two different colors (purple and yellow). The picture shows a modern genji kneeling by a water basin and drying his hands. On shoulders and sleeves he wears his family coat of arms (mon): sasarindō (geentians with bambus-like leaves).
