The first time David Spiller began working in this format – small-scale paintings, 40 x 40 cm / 15.75 x 15.75 inches - was in 1986. Given ten small canvases by his Holland-based gallery, he was asked to theme an exhibition. At first, David was reluctant to limit himself to a specific size; however he soon discovered he loved the creativity of this constraint.
