Global Adjustment Perspectives of Indian Professionals

The present article examines the personality of the Indian expatriates. Along with the Multi personality questionnaire (MPQ) to assess personality, three levels of adjustment were also used. The study took place among a sample of expatriates (N = 120) during their assignments in Japan, US, UK and other countries. The MPQ has scales for cultural empathy, open-mindedness, social initiative, emotional stability and flexibility. Married expatriates showed higher levels of adjustment than expatriates who were single or separated. Among the MPQ factors, open-mindedness and emotional stability shows the strongest relation. Cultural empathy turns out to be the predictor of personal adjustment. Flexibility is strongly correlated to social adjustment. Indian expatriates score highest on open-mindedness.
