Abstract
Publius Iuventius Celsus Titus Aufidius Hoenius Severianus, or Celsus, was a prominent jurist during the reign of Hadrian who played an important role in imperial government. The son of the lesser known jurist Celsus, he interpreted law on the basis of empirical analysis and equity. This article describes his family background and political career, his legal writings, and his approach to law, which participated in legal and philosophical debates about law and equity.
