Pitch Cone Design of Face-Hobbed Hypoid Gears

Abstract
In the present paper, the principle of pitch cone design of hypoid gears by Mr. E. Wildhaber is studied first. Then, three equations are derived for calculation of the radii of curvatures of tooth lengthwise lines of the imaginary crown gear, the generated gear and the non-generated gears. And finally, an improved algorithm for pitch cone design of face-hobbed hypoid gears is proposed, in which two design equations in two variables are used, and hence the trial-and-error procedure is avoided.
