‘Thieving perspectives’: Eavan Boland’s “Suburban Woman” poems

À partir d’une étude de trois poèmes d’Eavan Boland, “Suburban Woman” (1975),“Suburban Woman: A Detail”(1987), et “Suburban Woman: Another Detail” (2001), et d’une lecture d’Object Lessons, recueil d’essais critiques publié en 1995, cet article se propose de définir la perspective d’Eavan Boland sur la tradition poétique irlandaise, d’analyser la manière dont elle entreprend de placer la femme au centre du poème (aux antipodes de ce qu’elle appelle “l’hérésie romantique”), en substituant des perspectives et des perceptions nouvelles aux conventions issues de la tradition. Les trois poèmes choisis à cet effet témoignent de sa détermination à faire entrer sa vie, sa vision et sa voix dans le poème, à “transformer des éléments d’expérience en éléments d’expression”. Les modulations de perspective et les variations prosodiques entre ces trois textes permettent de prendre la mesure du parcours poétique d’Eavan Boland, de The War Horse, paru en 1975, à Domestic Violence, publié au printemps 2007.
