Given by Marshal Ney for Medical services rendered by Dr. MacDonald just before his (Marshal Ney's) execution in Luxembourg on December 7 1815. Dr. MacDonald was a Lieutenant-Colonel and the private surgeon to the Duke of Wellington and was with the Duke through the Peninsular Campaign and finally in the battles that resulted in the abdication of Napoleon as Emperor. Christina Ogston (1825-1908) emigrated from Scotland to Whitby Ontario (Canada) in 1836 and was married January 21 1858 to Mr. George Begg (1817-1904) also of Whitby Ontario. The Beggs emigrated to the United States at Detroit Michigan in 1858 and their son George Ogston Begg (1859-1950) was born in Detroit September 2 1859. George O. Begg From his mother Christina Ogston Gift to daughter Margaret Louise Begg Tenny 1932. Mr. George O. Begg gave the ring to his daughter Margaret Louise Begg Tenney (1898-1977) at Christmas 1932. Margaret Louise Begg Tenney Gift from her father 1932 Gift to her daughter at her death 1977.
