EVALUATION OF SERUM ISCHEMIA MODIFIED ALBUMIN LEVEL IN PATIENTS WITH MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION.
View through CrossRef
Background: Myocardial infarction requires early diagnosis for patient benefit. One of the cause of myocardial
infarction can be ischemia. In ischemia, there is reduction in cobalt binding affinity of albumin, due to the free radical
damage of N-terminal site, which is cobalt binding site of albumin molecule. This modified albumin is called as ischemia
modified albumin (IMA).Method:50 patients of diagnosed myocardial infarction (MI) and 50 healthy control group were
evaluated for serum ischemia modified albumin level using albumin cobalt binding method by colorimetry. Result:
Total of 100 subjects were evaluated. 50 cases (15 female& 35 male) of myocardial infarction and 50 healthy controls
(19female & 31 male) were studied. In our study mean level of serum IMA was found to be 0.46±0.26 ABSU in control
group & 0.91±0.24 ABSU in cases of MI.Serum level of ischemia modified albumin level is significantly raised in cases of
MI as compared to healthy control group (p=0.01). Conclusion:Ischemia modified albumin evaluation may be helpful
in identification of myocardial ischemia.

Title: EVALUATION OF SERUM ISCHEMIA MODIFIED ALBUMIN LEVEL IN PATIENTS WITH MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION.
Description:
Background: Myocardial infarction requires early diagnosis for patient benefit.
One of the cause of myocardial
infarction can be ischemia.
In ischemia, there is reduction in cobalt binding affinity of albumin, due to the free radical
damage of N-terminal site, which is cobalt binding site of albumin molecule.
This modified albumin is called as ischemia
modified albumin (IMA).

(19female & 31 male) were studied.
In our study mean level of serum IMA was found to be 0.
46±0.
26 ABSU in control
group & 0.
91±0.
24 ABSU in cases of MI.
Serum level of ischemia modified albumin level is significantly raised in cases of
MI as compared to healthy control group (p=0.
01).
Conclusion:Ischemia modified albumin evaluation may be helpful
in identification of myocardial ischemia.
