IMPACT OF LIVELIHOOD SUPPORT EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMES OF THE NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR REFUGEES MIGRANTS AND INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS IN MAIDUGURI METROPOLITAN, BORNO STATE NIGERIA

The study assesses Impact of Livelihood Support Empowerment Programmes of National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Maiduguri Metropolitan, Borno State Nigeria. The problem that ignites this study is stated. Three objectives and three research questions were raised to guide the study, A survey design was used for this study. The target population for this study was 2400 beneficiaries of NCFRMI in 2021. The sample for the study was 331 respondents selected using Krejcie and Morgan method of sampling. The research instrument used to collect data for this study was a questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed by the researcher to elicit responses. It is tagged “Impact of Livelihood Support Empowerment Programmes of National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Informal camps in Maiduguri Metropolitan, Borno State Nigeria.” “QILSEPNCRMICMMC”. The response was four-point Likert scale. The instrument was validated by experts in measurement and evaluation and the supervisor. Test-retest reliability was used to test the reliability of the instrument. Data collected was analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency count, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Findings of this study revealed that; there is positive perception of the impact of NCFRMIs Agricultural input activities, there is low impact of NCFRMIs Skill acquisition activities on the empowerment of Informal camps and host communities in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council. Based on the findings from this study, the following recommendations were made; NCFRMI should integrate into broader support programs that address various aspect of community empowerment. NCFRMI should conducts thorough review and revision of its skill acquisition programs to understand the specific needs for target population, NCFRMI should conducts a comprehensive review and adaptation of its support programs. This process should involve close collaboration with the communities to gain insights into their specific needs, preferences, and challenges. In conclusion, the examination of the influence of Livelihood Support Empowerment Programmes initiated by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Informal camps (NCFRMI) in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Borno State, Nigeria, reveals both positive outcomes and existing challenges.
