A publikáció egy különleges Plautus-komédia, Poenulus magyar változatát teszi elérhetővé, amelyhez bevezető és jegyzetapparátus is társul. A Poenulus különleges helyet foglal el a római vígjátéki hagyományban: nemcsak tematikai összetettsége, hanem a benne megszólaló pun nyelvi betétek révén is. A bevezető értelmezi a darab szerkezeti sajátosságait, műfaji besorolhatóságának kérdéseit és utóéletét, különösen a pun–római identitás viszonyának tükrében. A fordítás és a kísérő szövegek célja, hogy egy sokszor félreértett, ugyanakkor rendkívül tanulságos darabot hozzanak közelebb a mai olvasókhoz.
