AN APPRAISAL of THE ROLE OF GOMBE EMIRATE AND SOCIO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: A STUDY OF GOMBE EMIRATE COUNCIL

There is widespread consensus in literature that traditional rulers exist to provide socio economic welfare services to people in their localities which the government at all levels cannot sufficiently provide. These socio economic welfare services constitute education, health, electricity, water supply and conflict resolution .Over the years, traditional rulers have encountered certain obstacles in performing their roles. This study is therefore, aimed at examining the roles of traditional rulers in socio economic development .The data for the study generated from both the primary and secondary sources. The basic resource theory was used, data generated was presented using tables and simple percentage technique.  The  findings of the study is that, the traditional ruler in Gombe local government  has  done perfectively in his roles of providing beneficial socio economic and welfare services to his people, it is therefore recommended that the traditional ruler in Gombe local government  should increase more effort in improving  social and welfare services to his populace.
