Da Dahl ikke opholdt sig ved havet in 1825, og maleriet har karakter af en friluftsstudie udført foran motivet, har Marie Lødrup Bang draget den tidligere læsning af dateringen, 1825, i tvivl (se Referencer), eftersom Dahl ikke opholdt sig ved havet dette år. Det gjorde han til gengæld flere gange i 1826 på rejsen via Danmark til Norge.
