The Limerick Crosier

View through Europeana Collections
The drawing shows two views of the crosier, one is a detailed view of its head, the other is a smaller sketch of the whole object. The crosier is made of silver gilt. In the crook is a depiction of the Annunciation. Below this, at the top of the staff, is a canopied structure with niches holding the figures of saints, the Trinity, and the Virgin. Underneath this is an enamelled inscription giving the date 1418, and mentioning Cornelius O'Dea, the bishop who commissioned the crosier.
