Drei Genien als Wappenhalter

The artist copied Dürer’s copper engraving “Drei Genien als als als Wappenhalter” from the opposite side around 1500. Although he was clearly oriented towards the template, he used a different technique. He too shows three Putti, who almost completely complete the picture. Together, two trumpet blowing Putti - one in front and one in back view - hold an empty coat of arms shield. Another putto flies over the minds of the musicians, who is clearly struggling to avert the coat of arms cropping, a spanish helmet with acanthus tendrils. The copyist integrated no reference to Dürer as the spiritual creator of the image idea. Instead, there is a beetle with the mirrored year “1515” in the lower right leaf corner. This was given as “1512” by Heller (cf. Heller Dürer 1827 II.479.876) and subsequent authors (e.g. TIB X Diese .1001,066 C5, Vogt 2008, Cat. No. 116).
