Immortality that exists
View through CrossRef
The research aims to provide a philosophical conceptualization of the human need for immortality and the various ways an individual may attain it. The article demonstrates that self-consciousness, which distinguished humans from nature, doomed them to the awareness of life’s transience; consequently, life acquired value and meaning, and thus – the necessity of immortality. One solution to this problem is religious faith, which grants life in the “hereafter”. Among rational solutions, the attainment of “social immortality” – preserving the memory of one’s deeds in the minds of others – is typical. The scientific novelty of the work lies in substantiating the individual’s immortality through the continuation of their thoughts and feelings in future generations. As a result of the study, this form of immortality is presented as the most realistic compared to other options.
