Mannerism: Islam and Western Art

The article discusses a problem of the historical Mannerism traditionally framed between Renaissance and Baroque, as well as the influence of Islamon the “rebirth” of the Western art. It is advisable to connect the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo periods of gradually changing style, but essentially of the same artistic nature, and see them as the gradually thriving and widely branching tree of Mannerism, planted in the middle of the 15th century. The period of the historical Mannerism should be counted from the loss of Constantinople in 1453 on the one hand and the French revolution of 1789 on the other. Such an attitude would not contradict the three-part periodization of the cyclic development of art, whose third component is the meta-category of Mannerism—its naming varies from Anticlassic to Postmodernism. The other cyclical dimensions are Archaic and Classic leading to Mannerism, after which the evolution returns to Archaic.
