Paul Ish

This chapter explores the life of Paul Ish, who was born in Pontiac, Michigan and spent summers with grandparents on the west side of the state. He had a wild streak. Once he ran away with a friend to work on a cattle ranch in Nebraska. He did it again a few months before high school graduation. After several months working at Pontiac Motor, Paul hoped to become a skilled tradesman, but he first had to complete his military obligation. He enlisted in the Air Force and ended up in a machine shop where he developed many valuable skills. Thanks to pressure from his influential father-in-law, Paul entered a skilled-trade apprenticeship in 1954 and eventually worked in product engineering, developing future auto models.
