View through CrossRef
Introduction: Based on data reviewed from the results of the 1st biomedical block exam at Udayana University, it was found that the proportion of student failures in the 1st biomedical block (2017-2022) had an average of above 50%. The inability of students to complete the biomedical block is certainly influenced by various factors such as teaching methods, materials taught, learning motivation, and how the evaluation is carried out. This study aims to identify student perceptions of the implementation of the 1st biomedical block and the factors that influence these perceptions. Methods: This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted using an online survey from May 2024 to October 2024. The DREEM questionnaire contains 5 items (students’ perceptions of lecturers, students’ perceptions of learning, students’ perceptions of atmosphere, students’ academic self-perceptions, and students’ social self-perceptions). The collected data will be analyzed using SPSS for Windows version 25.0 software. Result: This research involved 111 respondents, with the majority of respondents failed the exam (82.9%). Overall, the majority of medical students expressed satisfaction with the execution of the 1st biomedical block. Five domains were used to evaluate these perceptions: students' perception of learning, teachers, self-perception, atmosphere, and self-perception. All domains indicated that medical students were satisfied with the implementation of the 1st biomedical block. Conclusion: This study shows that first-year medical students at Udayana University have a good perception of the implementation of the 1st biomedical block.  Curriculum adjustments and additional support are needed to improve learning effectiveness and material comprehension.
