This non-complete specimen - there are no pictures 9, 23 and 46 - is one of the numerous copies of the episode “Pictures of fieldwork and silk breeding (Dieses Dieses Dieses 様; Yuzhi gengzhi tu)” by Jiao Bingzhen (Dieses Dieses 様), which was commissioned by the Kangxi Emperor in 1696. Both the specimen at the Congress Library in Washington and that at the Bibliotheque nationale in Paris are considered to be independent works by Jiao Bingzhen. The color combinations of the colorings suggest that this sequence was made in Canton (Guangzhou) for export to Europe between 1770 and 1820. Parts of an earlier hand-colored woodcut sequence are available under inventory number BI 24672. The census of the images follows: Monnet, Nathalie: Le Gengzhitu: Le livre du riz et de la soie. Paris 2003
