(Walmart) stores and e-commerce sites in 19 countries. Walmart U.S. was the retailer's largest segment, with 4,605 stores (3,559 supercenters, 355 discount stores, and 691 neighborhood markets and other small formats). Walmart International was the company's second-largest segment, with 5,566 stores across 18 countries abroad, followed by Sam's Club U.S., a membership-only club, which operated 600 stores in 44 US states and in Puerto Rico.</p><p>In April 2023, Walmart announced it was going to install and operate thousands of its own electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging (Level 3 DC) stations at its US Walmart and Sam's Club locations over the next seven years. “With a store or club located within 10 miles of approximately 90% of Americans, we are uniquely positioned to deliver a convenient charging option that will help make EV ownership possible whether people live in rural, suburban or urban areas,” wrote Vishal Kapadia, Walmart senior vice president of energy transformation. At the time, the company already had nearly 1,300 EV fast-charging stations at more than 280 US facilities through the Electrify America and EVgo networks.</p><p>In an interview, Adam Happel (MBA '08), Walmart's general manager of retail EV charging, said that the number of stalls per location would depend on market conditions, including the number of EVs in each specific market and the number of charging networks already operating nearby. Happel said Walmart would monitor utilization and design the sites so that it would be easy to add more chargers to prevent customer queuing.</p><p>. . .</p>
