Krus.Wanli, the Ming Dynasty.

A GRAVEL. Egg shaped with a small neck. Around the edge of the foot a stretcher of obliquely placed ju-i ornaments. The lower part of the abdomen a stylized sea with five horses on the run. The upper part of the abdomen a pattern of ju-in-ornaments, tassels and objects. Ring the neck a rank board. On the underside Kejsar Wanli’s mark and from his period of government (1573-1619). The subject participated in the exhibition of Chinese art and crafts in Stockholm in 1914. Meiping (meaning “vase for prunus blossom”) is the later name given to the cruses with retracted necks that were first used to store alcohol. Decorative cruses such as this were used to serve at the table. The ruse drinks were poured over from larger cruses to such serving cruses, which originally had lids. Although this item has a Wanlie brand, it is roughly pushed and sand grains have stuck on the underside. Jing (The Book of Mountains and Sea) and was unquestionably popular. Porcelain meiping jar Porin underglaze cobalt blue Ming dynasty, ground and Mof Wanli (1572-1620). Meiping Decorative jars like this. it it has a Wanli mark, the piece is robuit potted and has grit adhering to the base. The donation of jewelled using the Eight Precious Things and sea creatures derives from Shan Hai jing (Classic of Mountains and Seas), and is decidedly decorin nature.
