LASHUNA(GARLIC)-NECTAR TO WOMEN: AN AYURVEDIC AND SCIENTIFIC REVIEW

Lashuna (Allium sativum L.) is an aromatic herbaceous plant that is consumed worldwide as food and a tradi-tional remedy for various diseases. The health benefits come mainly from its main ingredient, Allicin. In the pre-sent era, due to a sedentary lifestyle and dietary modifications, many gynaecological disorders arise and affect the quality of life of females. Ayurvedic classics described all gynaecological disorders under the umbrella of Yonivyapadas & Artava Vikaras, and for that, Acharya Kashyapa described Lashuna as Lashuna Rasayana. Lashuna is certainly a remedy for gynaecological problems, which is mentioned in Ayurvedic classics and signif-icantly proved by modern scientific evidence also. This review article comprises of recent research about the pharmacological properties and phytochemical constituents of Lashuna, importance of Lashuna as Rasayana, and its indication in various female gynaecological disorders like Infertility, PCOD, Pelvic inflammatory diseas-es, Dysmenorrhea, Premenstrual syndrome and Menstrual abnormalities.
