Polazište ovog rada jest da je Malcolm Lowry u osnovi romanopisac jedne knjige. Ovo se očituje u Lowryevu kompulzivnom vraćanju vlastitim tekstovima, u onome što autor članka nazivlje njihovim opsesivnim ponavljanjem. U radu se ta osobina prikazuje pomoću osebujnog odnosa između romana Pod vulkanom i djela Mračno kao grob u kojemu počiva moj prijatelj i ukazom na makrokompoziciju, likove i životinjsko slikovlje u Pod vulkanom. Naposljetku, autor skreće pozornost na motiv slike “Los Borrachones” koja po njemu pridaje vjerodostojnost izloženom čitanju.
