Künhü’l-Ahbâr’da Emir Timur ve Yıldırım Bayezid

Gelibolulu Mustafa Âlî, one of the prominent historians of 16th-century Ottoman historiography, examines Ottoman history from a broad perspective in his work Künhü’l-Ahbâr. This study focuses on the comparison of Timur and Yıldırım Bayezid in Künhü’l-Ahbâr. Gelibolulu Mustafa Âlî was the first amonğ Ottoman historians to make a direct comparison between these two rulers, emphasizing impartiality in historical writinğ. He does not merely attribute Yıldırım Bayezid’s defeat at the Battle of Ankara to Ottoman strategic mistakes but also considers Timur’s military discipline and spiritual preparation in his assessment. This article analyzes the relevant sections of Künhü’l-Ahbâr, explorinğ Mustafa Âlî’s historical approach and his views on Timur and Yıldırım Bayezid. The study contributes to understanding the evolution of objectivity and methodology in Ottoman historiography.
