Sculpture of 'Laocoon and his sons', also known as the 'Laocoon group'. Excavated in Rome in 1506 it is a prime example of classical sculpture. The style of the sculpture is Hellenistic "Pergamene baroque". The original is Marble, but it is unclear whether this is a stereoscopic photo of the original or of a copy, which may have been made from an alternative material. The statue has since been altered by removal of restored parts, thought not to conform to original intentions, which were removed in the 1980s. The scene depicted is debated as to whether it is from the Greek Epic Cycle, or Virgil's Aeneid. It was displayed at the Great Exhibition in 1851.
