Epílogo: The Legacy of Granados

Abstract Posterity’s assessment of Granados will never place him alongside the composers he admired most: Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, and Wagner. He was not in their class; he knew it, and so do we. There is no doubt, however, that he does enjoy a perma- nent place in the pantheon of European composers, if only as a minor deity. Certain of his works have attained those twin peaks of popularity and critical respect that as- sure some measure of immortality to a creative artist.
