Janus kinase 3 gene as a predictor for vitiligo prognosis

View through CrossRef
Background and objective Vitiligo, a depigmenting skin disorder, is characterized by the selective loss of melanocytes. Aim: to analyze the blood gene expression pattern of the Janus kinase 3 (JAK3) gene in vitiligo patients and investigate its relation to the disease’s clinical parameters and its role in vitiligo pathogenesis. Also, compare the level of JAK3 gene in patients with normal individuals. Patients and methods This is a case–control study that included 48 participants divided into 28 vitiligo patients and 20 unrelated healthy volunteers as a control group. Samples are taken from the patients and controls for the assessment of JAK3 expression using real-time PCR. Results JAK3 gene is over-expressed in patients than controls. Conclusion JAK3 gene is upregulated in vitiligo patients’ blood than control’s and contribute to the pathogenesis of vitiligo.
