Table I. On Composition: Constructing Images according to decorative and organic principles

View through Europeana Collections
As the principles of Suprematism, non-objective art, as well as organic art, were based on the relationship between colour and form, artists and teachers in the art workshops of Moscow and Petrograd (Saint Petersburg) developed their theories about the harmony between form and colour through experiments. Kliun argued that: "If we change the colour, the form in which the colour is enclosed demands a change as well. However, the opposite also occurs: the change of form claims a change in colour". In his artwork " Table I. On Composition: Constructing Images according to decorative and organic principles", Kliun provides visual documentation of these approaches. The drawing, which includes several compositions found in various works and studies by Kliun, serves as a guide for scholars of Suprematism.
