Shōno, Sasaki Shirō Takatsuna (Station 45, Print 46)

Ichiyūsai Kuniyoshiga I様様 IIILeaf 46, Station 45. The leaf is taken from a Tōkaidō I様 Iseries (complete series cf. HM 11486), drawn by three artists Kunisada, Kuniyoshi and Hiroshige and edited by several publishers. In this paper, the upper part, which contained the title cartouche and a field with the short narrative of the depicted legend, was cut off. Here is the picture of the post station Shōno Hier. Shown is a scene from the time of the Genpei 様 wars just before the Battle of the Uji River. The two samurai Kajiwara Genta Kagesue Die Die 様 and Sasaki Shirō Takatsuna Die 様 Die Die Die Die Die 様 and cross the Uji River with their horses to face an enemy. Takatsuna is the first to reach the other bank. The picture shows Takatsuna in full armor crossing the river on his horse. This episode influenced the further development of the narrative. She liked to be portrayed on the Kabuki stage, as well as a modern version of the retelling of Yoshikawa Eiji.
