Square and Compass-Freemasonry
View through Europeana Collections
The "Square and Compass-Masonry" is part of the handmade series of silk-screen prints "Book Flags" created by the artist on 300 gsm paper in London during the period 2011-2012. In this series, nine well-known Symbols/ Flags are depicted, contrasting concepts of education with the belief systems represented by these global symbols. The artist uses her book collection as structural material in an effort to emphasize the need for the reconstruction of these ideologies. The shape and functioning of the book have been meticulously reorganized to create a composition that tends to approach architectural elevation or drawing.
